Pi Day Freebie
Pi day is March 14th every year. It is one of my favorite days to celebrate with my students. This year pi day is on a Saturday so you can celebrate either on March 13th or March 16th.
One quick and easy way to celebrate pi day is to have your students analyze the digits of pi. Using my FREE resource. Simply download and print here. Your students will work together to color, assemble and display as many digits of the irrational number as possible. Have your students each color 10 digits during the days leading up to your pi day celebration and the number of pi digits they can display will quickly add up! Best of all they will look very cool displayed around your classroom.
There is so much more you can do than just display the digits of pi. Here are some quick ideas you can use:
Before starting the challenge, have your students predict which digit they think will appear the most.
After your students have displayed the digits have them create a tally chart for digits 0-9. Was their prediction correct? What can they determine after analyzing the data?
Challenge your students to see how many digits they can memorize by looking at the display. (I have had students memorize up to 150 digits-which still blows my mind!).
