If you are looking for encouragement in your math classroom…you are in the right place.

I am so glad you have made it to my page, The Positive Math Classroom!  My name is Amy and I have taught math to grades 4-8th at a Catholic school in Chicago.  I also spent time as a substitute teacher from grades K-8.  I currently work from home with my three young children and homeschool my two oldest. Although there are aspects of every grade I love, my passion is for teaching middle school math.

Although I have always loved math, my passion for teaching math begin in college.  My degree was in mathematics and elementary education.  Learning about the best practices for teaching math and challenging students to think about math in different ways helped to cultivate my passion.

I made resources for my classroom from the beginning and was able to figure out how to help students stay organized and give them plenty of space to show their work. I also started creating projects and activities that would help my students remember important math concepts such as the integer rules or slope as well as real world math connections.

I saw the spark of excitement and creativity in my students, especially those who thought they were “bad at math”.

The Positive Math Classroom is not only the name of my site and TpT shop, but it is what I felt my classroom encompassed.  It was my goal as a math teacher to encourage all my students and help them to know they truly can succeed in math and that mistakes are an important way to help them learn.

Although I have left the classroom to focus on my family, I continue to stay current on the best practices for mathematics education.  I continue to connect with teachers in the math classroom. In addition, I do my best to research and read professional development on teaching math.  My passion for helping teachers in the middle school math classroom will never go away!
